How many times have you been told ‘the most important thing’ you can do when pregnant?
Do you have a checklist of all the things you NEED to do/have/buy/finish/be before the baby
comes? Or maybe you have your fingers in your ears “Lalala I’m not listening!”
Either way: Great job. Totally normal. 100% on track to being a mum.
From when and how to conceive, to how to share your news, to how to prepare, when and
how to birth, and that’s before junior has even arrived!
It’s overwhelming and I feel like I need a bit of a lay down just thinking about it.
Crazily, we know that women have been doing this since women first began, and most of
that was without all the stuff we have today, but that doesn’t make it any easier to avoid the
FOMO around it all. I mean, really, you’re reading this in a magazine FILLED with products
and services you must have right? Nope. Wrongo! The CBD is packed with awesome
products and services you might want or even need, and conveniently they’re all in one
place – that doesn’t mean you should look through it and see your to-do/to-buy list growing.
There is no one right way to do this parenting thing. Because every baby is different. Every
mother and family is different.
So I’m here to give you my two cents worth: Decluttering is the most important thing you can
do before Baby arrives. I don’t mean decluttering the spare room to turn into a nursery,
though you can totally do that too. I mean decluttering your obligations and expectations.
And the best part is that you can start without even getting off the couch!
How to declutter your obligations:
Take each piece of advice (including mine!) and sales pitch as you come across it, hold it
close and ask yourself:
Is this for me?
Does it make me feel good and or anxious?
Can I take a piece of it or the idea and go a different way?
If I didn’t have this, what would I do instead?
Answering these questions will help you to focus on what is right for you and your baby and
declutter that which will just clutter your thoughts, time, and home.
You can now be free to make decisions based on what you want and need rather than what
you think you should want or must need. And THAT my friend, is going to save you a lot of
inner and outer clutter in the coming months and years.
