As expectant parents, what’s the first thing
that pops into your heads when you hear
the word ‘Birth’?
Well, I’d like to invite you to take a
moment and consider that first thing that
popped into your head just then along with
all your other beliefs about Birth and
suggest you write them down now. That’s
it, go ahead, no need to second- guess just
name them up and jot them down in point
form.
Great, now ask yourselves the
following questions:
What is the main theme of my beliefs
about Birth?
Where or from whom did I get my beliefs?
What feelings do my beliefs stir-up in me?
Are these feelings helpful or a hinderance
to how I see my labour and birth
unfolding?
Would I like to change how I am feeling
about my labour and birth?
Now consider your answerers carefully,
particularly that last one – that’s where I
come in.
I believe birth should be a rewarding
experience and that one of the best assets
for expectant parents during labour and
birth is self- agency. calmbirth® is the
childbirth education program done by you
not to you and can help you put yourselves
in the driver’s seat of your birthing
experience.
To set you on your way we will explore
how our beliefs/perceptions of labour and
birth can hinder or enhance the birthing
process and what you as individuals and as
a team can do about that. Our motto is
“With Knowledge Comes Confidence” and
our aim is to prepare you mentally,
emotionally and physically for the birth of
your baby.
Birth is often described as unpredictable
but not unpreparable and the World Health
Organisation informs us that with helpful
knowledge and tools 80% of births
proceed normally without intervention.
That’s why the calmbirth® syllabus has
been designed to provide you with useful
knowledge and understanding about the
birthing process, to teach you how to be a
helpful support person and to equip you
with skills that can enhance any birthing
scenario and the early post-natal period.
The course runs over two days and is
ideally suited between 24-34 weeks of
pregnancy.
calmbirth® is great for first
births and for those who have had a
challenging birth experience and would
like their next one to be different.
We also offer refresher courses and a special
program for those who know they’ll be
having a caesarean.
calmbirth® is not about the type of birth
you have chosen to have but about the
quality of your experience. All educators
are qualified birth professionals and
practice Australia wide.
I run regular courses in Kingston and Yass, you can
book you place and find out
